Il valore di pH misura l’acidità dell’acqua; può variare da 0 a 14: il valore 7 corrisponde al pH neutro, un valore inferiore indica acidità mentre un livello superiore indica basicità. La cosa più importante del pH è che sia all’interno del range di tollerabilità dei pesci e che sia mantenuto il più possibile stabile; per questa stabilità la durezza carbonatica (KH) è fondamentale.
Il pH ideale per un acquario standard d’acqua dolce è tra 6.5 e 7.5.
